The Four Rooms of Mrs. Sophie

The Four Rooms of Mrs. Sophie

“The Four Rooms of Mrs. Sophie” comprises a restaurant, a wine and cocktail bar, a lounge, and a flower-filled summer garden. It is the first venue of its kind in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Four Rooms offers an unforgettable ambience which celebrates the legend of a forbidden love affair between beautiful Safija from Sarajevo and Johan, an Austrian Count, during the transition from Turkish to Austro-Hungarian rule. Many would argue that it’s not only the best restaurant in Sarajevo but in the whole country.

Safija’s house was built in 1910 as a monument to love, beauty and fortitude. Our modern designers have crafted the interior with exceptional care, paying attention to every single millimeter of the past embedded in the walls of Mrs. Safija’s rooms. The restoration has left the atmosphere in the four rooms completely intact, which was our ultimate objective.

While all of the rooms have been decorated with a specific purpose in mind, their history has nevertheless been preserved. The oriental-style architecture and the interiors decorated with fretwork and filled with an interesting and eclectic mix of ornaments, blend into a unique ethnographic display. The dining room is a mix of intricately planned design with a tasteful scattering of blue-blooded belongings: Marble-topped vanities and chests, overstuffed armchairs and couches in the upstairs parlor, deliberately weathered plank floors, and monogrammed linen napkins. As calculated as the restaurant’s design is though, the menu is even better.
