Blagaj is a small settlement 12 kilometers south of Mostar. This sleepy Herzegovina town was once the hub of the royal Kosača family, which ruled medieval Hum (present-day Herzegovina) until the arrival of Ottomans in the 15th century. Although Blagaj may have lost its royal status, it has become a major factor in tourism development in this part of Herzegovina. The well-balanced mix of both cultural and natural heritage has made Blagaj a pull for many types of tourists. Most of the things to see and do revolve around the Buna River. The 16th century Dervish Monastery is the trademark of the town. Based at the source of River Buna that gushes crystal clear water, it’s the perfect place to beat the heat. Try to visit the medieval fortress of Stjepan Herceg perched high above the cliffs of the Buna Springs. There are rafting and biking opportunities as well.
